It is not unusual, when upgrading your software to a newer version, to also move the program to a different computer. This help sheet will guide you through the process of moving from an older version of Servant Keeper on an "old" machine to a newer version of Servant Keeper on a "new" machine.

Upgrading to Servant Keeper 8 with a Local Database

  1. To begin, go to the "old" computer where your Servant Keeper program is currently installed. This computer will be used to upgrade your existing data to a Local Servant Keeper 8 database.

For those using Servant Keeper 7 with a Local database: click HERE for a help sheet to guide you through performing the upgrade on your old computer.

For those using Servant Keeper 6: click HERE for a help sheet to guide you through performing the upgrade on your old computer.

  2. After the upgrade has been completed on your old computer, you will need to create a backup of the Servant Keeper 8 data in order to bring it to your new computer. To back up:

    • Open the Servant Keeper 8 Administration Manager.

    • When the "Servant Keeper Demo" window appears, simply click [Continue Demo].

    • Log in using the same User ID and Password you used previously in your old version of Servant Keeper.

    • When logging in for the first time, you will be prompted to enter your email address. Enter your email address in the boxes provided, then click [Save] to continue. In Servant Keeper 8, your email address will be tied to your User and can be used for logging in and password retrieval.

    • In the Administration Manager, click on the [Back Up] button.

    • On the "Backup Data Files" window, use the [Browse] button to point to your USB drive or shared network location.

NOTE: When deciding where to save this back up file, keep in mind you will need to access this backup on your new computer.

    • Click on the [Start Backup] button to create your backup, then click [Yes] to continue.

    • When the message appears stating your backup completed successfully, click [OK], then close completely out of Servant Keeper.

  3. Go to the "new" computer where you'd like your Servant Keeper 8 database to reside. Follow the instructions in the help sheet HERE to install Servant Keeper 8 with a new local database.

NOTE: If your new computer is a Mac, you can find the installation instructions HERE .

    • Open the Servant Keeper 8 Administration Manager.

    • When the "Servant Keeper Demo" window appears, click [Activate License] to register your program.

    • In the "Register and Activate Servant Keeper" window that appears, paste (or type) your Servant Keeper 8 Product Code on the "Product Code" line. After pasting in your Product Code, the Customer ID, Organization Name, and Email fields may auto-fill with your organization's information. If these boxes do not auto-fill, type the correct information in the boxes provided. On the "Name this installation" line, enter a name to identify the license code used on this computer. Click [Register and Activate] to complete your registration.

    • A "New User Information" window will appear. Type your name on the "Name" line and your email on both the "Email" and "Confirm Email" lines.

    • On both the "Password and "Confirm Password" lines, type "keeper1".

    • Click [Save], then click [OK] to the message your user has been created.

    • Back on the login screen, log in using your email address and "keeper1" for the password.
